VISIT TO THE ASNIÈRES-SUR-OISE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT WITH EAU DE PARIS, DESIGNED 14 YEARS AGO BY AR ARCHITECTES

AR ARCHITECTES is proud to revisit one of its flagship projects : the Asnières-sur-Oise wastewater treatment plant, delivered in 2011 for the client SICTEUB. This site, designed according to the principles of bioclimatic architecture, was recently the subject of a visit organized for Eau de Paris, as part of a knowledge-sharing initiative on best environmental and architectural practices.

From the outset, the plant was conceived with strong environmental ambitions. It integrates low-carbon footprint systems and promotes sustainable resource management. Key features include on-site stormwater infiltration through cellular paving, vegetated swales for water management, and a bioclimatic architecture that blends harmoniously into its surroundings.

The client, SICTEUB, has proven to be a committed and exemplary partner, building upon and enhancing the approach initiated by AR ARCHITECTES. The educational pathway envisioned during the design phase has since been further developed, reflecting the will to make the site both a place of environmental awareness and a high-performing technical facility.

Today, the site continues to evolve with additional features supporting biodiversity and energy autonomy: installation of new beehives, added photovoltaic panels, and ecological grazing using sheep for landscape maintenance. A fruit orchard planted during construction now provides produce consumed by the site’s occupants.

This project, designed with a focus on sustainability and landscape integration, demonstrates that responsible architecture can not only age gracefully, but also grow and improve over time through the continued engagement of its users.
