The River Neuve / Pierrettes hydraulic system optimisation project is set within a context of increased territorial vulnerability to flood risks, exacerbated by climate change.

Located at the heart of the Wateringues system, the area is subject to the combined eff ects of heavy rainfall, high tides and storm surges, which limit gravity-based drainage towards the sea.

The existing and proposed structures (pumping stations, retention basins and associated equipment) aim to secure water level management, reduce flood risks for urbanised areas, and protect populations and
economic activities
. The project also integrates landscape, environmental and heritage considerations, in order to reconcile hydraulic performance with sustainable territorial integration.
